Hotel Gravas Lodge

Lumnezia/Vella, Kanton Graubünden

THE Swiss hotel for guests with dogs

A summer vacation in Vella (1240 m above sea level) means: lots of hiking trails, bike trails, green slopes, plenty of exercise for dogs too and quaint stone houses in the village center. There is a small hotel just above the village. It was built 40 years ago, when restaurants in the village were still restricted by the alcohol clause and it was not yet permitted for locals to have a beer in Gravas.

In 1990, the pizzeria was built into the former Pension Gravas. Beatrice Di Blasi-Brand and her Italian-born husband Fabio, who run the Hotel Gravas together with their son Davide, still smile about the strict rules in the village. Now it is normal for guests and locals, with or without dogs, to sit in the pizzeria or on the terrace with its fantastic view over the village, eat something and discuss God and the world across the tables.

Best Swiss hotel for guests with dogs

So they do exist, the beautiful places in Switzerland where it is worth spending a sustainable vacation with your four-legged friend, taking fun courses or, even better, combining the two. The “Gravas” is part of the Swisstainable program of the Surselva. Val Lumnezia is a very natural vacation paradise for young and old, people and animals. At the Hotel Gravas, the Di Blasi family offers a range of services specially tailored to all those who want to spend their vacation time with their beloved pets.

The Hotel Gravas has been named the best Swiss hotel for guests with dogs for the 4th time in a row. A total of around 700 dog hotels in Europe were assessed. The Gravas is among the 20 best.
The hotel rooms have been renovated and refurnished, always with the future dog guests in mind. The rest of the building is also dog-friendly: dog showers or a securely fenced training area right outside the hotel, towels for drying off, dog crates, door signs indicating that the dog is alone in the room. Of course, there are dog bowls, food on request, dog biscuits and, for dog owners, light vests and flashlights for evening walks.

There is plenty on offer for our four-legged guests. Dog treats are available in the room as a welcome gift. Food bowls and a place for dogs to sleep are provided. Foldable dog crates are also available free of charge. To clean the animals, there is a special dog shower and, of course, towels to dry them off. There is an extra fridge to ensure that fresh food stays that way.

Specialties for body and soul

At Di Blasis, emphasis is placed on regional, organic and seasonal cuisine. Traditional “housewife dishes” are served as well as vegan and vegetarian specialties. Most of the produce is sourced in the valley.

Wonderfully crispy pizzas come out of the stone oven. Davide Di Blasi is responsible for this. The trained pizzaiolo and chef loves his work and experiments with new pizza variations.
Our Pizzeria Gravas in Vella is the first restaurant in the Surselva to offer a permanent, seasonal menu with conventional, vegan and vegetarian dishes.

Cooking courses are offered at the Hotel Gravas from time to time. Variety is guaranteed: curries and wok dishes based on original recipes from the Thai chef Pathchanee from north-east Thailand and, of course, capuns sursilvans or maluns from Graubünden cuisine as well as Italian dishes. Beatrice Di Blasi – herself a passionate cook – is happy to show guests how to transform these dishes into vegan delicacies.

For our hotel guests with half-board bookings, we cook fresh menus every day, traditional, vegetarian or vegan.

Massages

Fabio Di Blasi is a qualified masseur. He offers full body massages, back massages and foot reflex massages. He also specializes in joints, the spine and atlasology. “I focus on a holistic approach and treat each person individually,” says Fabio di Blasi.

Not at home and yet at home

Hiking vacations or cooking course vacations can be ideally combined. Especially in summer, when it’s hot in the lowlands, you can enjoy the warm days and balmy evenings. Walks past bubbling brooks, picnics or sunrise breakfasts on the mountain, a day of swimming at the small lake nearby are just part of the daily program. At Hotel Gravas, the hosts are happy to cater to guests’ wishes.
