The world’s first SDG hotel

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) combine environmental and social sustainability, providing the ideal framework for making our planet liveable in the long term. All stakeholders need to pull together, which is why Boutiquehotel Stadthalle has integrated the SDGs into its DNA.

Together with Gabarage – a social enterpris – this exciting project was implemented in 2020. Each room conveys awareness of the respective sustainability goal with self-built furniture in upcycling design. For all guests, this is a journey of discovery alongside exploring the city of Vienna and offers the opportunity to learn about the SDGs in a playful way.

Consciously fair travel

Climate protection is also key at Boutiquehotel Stadthalle. With a 130 m² solar system, a 93 m² photovoltaic system and a water heat pump, the hotel generates as much energy throughout the year as the passive house consumes. By dispensing with minibars, 21 tons of CO2 are saved annually, waste is consistently recycled and energy is saved by using LED light bulbs.
Sustainable travel pays off even more: Guests who travel by train or bicycle in a climate-friendly way save 10% on their direct booking.

Organic gourmet breakfast

The wholesome organic gourmet breakfast can be enjoyed in the quiet, leafy courtyard garden in summer. In addition to organic food, we also pay attention to the regionality and seasonality of the products. The buffet does not use small individual packages for jam and butter, for example. Even the organic coffee is transported to Europe on a CO2-neutral sailing ship.

Measures are also taken to prevent food waste: a daily communal staff breakfast, a pyre made from rolls from the previous day and baked bread potato chips made from leftover bread.
A lavender field has been planted on the flat roof of the passive house, which not only provides a wonderful view from the rooms, but also provides a habitat for five bee colonies, whose honey is served at the breakfast buffet.
