The 20-bedroom Beck Hall Hotel and Restaurant in the popular Yorkshire Dales village of Malham is England’s first plant-based hotel.

From dog-friendly to 100% plant-based

Owners Louise & Andy Macbeth, the couple, who acquired Beck Hall nearly a decade ago, say that a personal journey that started from a place of compassion for animals had led their family to a plant-based diet and that they also recognised the potential positive impact eating more plants could have on the environment and health.

Beck Hall was already established as a must-visit dog-friendly hotel with its sprawling streamside location in the Yorkshire Dales village of Malham, with some of Britain’s best walks starting and ending at its doorstep.

Using the finest ingredients from local suppliers, the kitchen team create stunning plant-based dishes that are uncompromisingly delicious, healthy and indulgent, as well as cruelty-free, sustainable and seasonal, including dishes such as ‘Sticky Seitan Ribs’, ‘Mushroom Stroganoff Suet Pudding’ and ‘Battered Banana Flower with Salt and Pepper Chips’. Other dishes include lemon and thyme ballotine of herbed seitan with crispy polenta, roasted red pepper puree and carrot bacon crisp, and for dessert, pomegranate and rose mess with vanilla meringue, rose and cardamom cream, seasonal fruit and sesame brittle.

The rooms

Built in 1705 as a yeoman’s cottage, Beck Hall became a ‘wayfarers’ hostel’ in the 1930s. Over the years, this quaint riverside cottage has evolved into a small hotel with 20 unique, cosy and characterful rooms. Linen, toiletries and hospitality trays are 100% plant-based.
